Description

Now, with the first ever authorized Washington, D.C. Edition of the Monopoly Game, you can put Congress in your back pocket or buy the White House in an attempt to own it all. Pass GO, collect $200, and, to avoid any appearance of impropriety, be sure to pay your taxes - when you land on City Tax that is! On the Potomac River lies the city of politicians, lobbyists, and power brokers, historic monuments, foreign embassies, awe-inspiring museums and the nation’s defense center - The Pentagon. Washington D.C., “the most powerful city in the world”, is home to the most powerful person in the world, the President of the United States, along with 600,000 other government workers and over four million residents of the surrounding metropolitan area. While we all wish the government could finance itself with Monopoly® Game money, it has more than once relied on local institutions to do just that. It was the Riggs National Bank of Washington D.C., the only remaining locally owned major bank, that loaned the government the gold to purchase the Alaskan Territory. Fahrney’s Pens, another local institution, has been supplying Presidents with the writing instruments that have been used to sign historical documents ever since Woodrow Wilson occupied the Oval Office. And with the Washington, D.C. Edition of the Monopoly Game, you can take a “chance” to win big without running for office, with the D.C. Lottery. Every year millions of people from around the globe visit Washington to get a first hand glimpse of the Capitol, the Smithsonian Institution, the Kennedy Center, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, the reflecting pool, Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam and the Korean War Memorials…and the list goes on and on. And like just about everything else in Washington, all are within walking distance from the Metro, the country’s most efficient transit system, which, if you are hustling to your next site or to a power lunch, will whisk you away to your next destination before you can say, “Politically Incorrect.” Speaking of power lunching, you’re never sure which senator, congressman, or cabinet member you’ll be dining on Clyde’s famous crab cakes or holding court at Old Ebbitt Grill. And if power shopping is on your agenda, it doesn’t take an act of Congress to fill the bill at Hecht’s, Georgetown Park, Mazza Gallerie, and the Shops at Union Station. At the end of the day, when you need to do your body justice, you can turn in at the Mayflower, or Loews L’Enfant Plaza. Or hang your hat where Elvis did when he visited Richard Nixon, at the historic Hotel Washington, which is also known for its breathtaking view of the mall.
